K-12 Demographics
While demographic data are often used by government entities, businesses, and policy makers, the intended audience for this series of short articles are elementary and secondary educational leaders, mainly superintendents, principals and school board members in the United States. My expectation is that this series will lead to active conversations with administrators of colleges and universities, workforce development organizations and K-12 businesses.
School leaders need to be concerned with current and future demographic changes to plan for student enrollment, pedagogical development, hiring of professional and administrative staff, student transportation, infrastructure and technology needs, and district budgeting. They can also use demographic data to plan for physical and mental health care, food and nutritional issues, housing and homelessness, personal and mass transportation, and prenatal and early childhood and language development programs for children and youth.
Below you will find a series of short articles that are being developed into published monographs, the basis for webinars, and presentations. My articles are predicated on the work of the late Harold "Bud" Hodgkinson.
